01 December 2015, 17:03 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Activists have been arrested in Nairobi while trying to access State House Nairobi to present a petition to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Led by well known civil rights activist Boniface Mwangi, the 6 were arrested Tuesday while trying to head to State House where they were set to present President Uhuru Kenyatta with a list of demands that they want to see implemented to improve the state of the nation.

Police said that their march was illegal and thus arrested them.

The march which was to take place from Freedom Corner in Uhuru Park to State House was termed illegal by Police.

" It is an illegal march," Police Spokesman Charles Owino told News24.

Named 'Team Courage', the group stated that it was going to State House to present a list of grievances it wanted adressed by the President with immediate effect.

It stated issues such as Constitutional defilement as well as corruption and human rights violations that it stated needed to be looked at by the President.

The petition had been signed by 8,000 Kenyans.
