The National Youth Bunge Association (NYBA) has launched a Kshs 4.5billion grant programme to village youth Bunges in seven counties countrywide.
The grant dubbed Tahidi Youth Fund has been donated by the USAID while the programme is implemented by a local NGO- mercy corps.
speaking in Nakuru today during the announcement of funds disbursement budget for Rift Valley groups , the president of the NYBA in Kericho county Mr. Gilbert Kemboi said that the funds will go a long way in economically empowering the youth .
He said the essence of the programme is to ensure the youth engage in gainful employment in a bid to caution them against engaging in violence come the electioneering period. He said that 15000 groups had been target in rift valley alone, adding that so far they have managed to reach 5000 of them .
He said that the programme will also entail an identification cards acquisition campaign dubbed "yes you can my id my life" which will be rolled out in all the seven counties targeted.
He said that the camapign is aimed at ensuring that the youth acquire ids since the same is a requirement come the voting period.
In may and june 2012, the democratically elected youth leaders in the county youth bunge forums distributed over 15,000 grant applications for the tahidi youth fund’s grants.
These youths are tasked directly to decide and implement the channelling of the funds to their self-made and desired development projects that are of immediate needs to their environments.
Over 7,000 village youth bunges have submitted applications to receive grants from the tahidi youth fund being channeled by the national youth bunge association (NYBA).
