Youths and local artistes preach peace

19 February 2013, 12:55Dennis Omido

Kenyan youths vowed that they will not be incited to cause violence before, during and after the March 4 election.

The youths had attended a peace concert dubbed “Tuko Rada” at Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) grounds to listen to both local and international artists preach peace through their music.

At the concert, presidential candidates gave their peace messages through a recorded video.

They promised to conduct peaceful campaigns and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner before, during and after the polls.

They promised to accept the outcome of the polls and follow the right procedures to resolve any arising problems.

United Nation Goodwill ambassador Tegla Loroupe cautioned the youths against political violence saying, “Politicians do not use their own children when fighting but use other peoples’ children.”

“You should not be convinced with little money to fight against people from other tribes because that will take us back to 2007/8,” she cautioned.

There was a lot of entertainment from various local artists including Jamaican singer Chronnixx who also urged the youths to shun violence and embrace peace during and after the elections.

The concert was organized by National Youth Bunge Association (NYBA) in collaboration with National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
