You cannot sack SRC, MPs told

Threats to sack members of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) by MPs are futile and impossible, the deputy Speaker of the Senate Kembi Gitura said.
He said the MPs do not have the power to dissolve the commission since it is a constitutional office that is protected by law.
The newly - elected MPs have accused the remuneration commission of giving them little salary that would make their lives miserable.
The MPs said reducing their salaries to KES 532 500 was unfair comparing their job description with that of other constitutional office holders whose perks remained high.
The lawmakers have threatened to disband the SRC and give its functions to another organ.
However, Gitura who is the Murang’a County senator said such a move would not be easy as the SRC is anchored on the Constitution and its removal would require a constitutional amendment.
Speaking after attending a church service at ACK Church Kianderi in Murang’a on Sunday, the senator also criticized governors for demanding more pay and urged them to start serving Kenyans.
The governors have also demanded a higher salary arguing that what they were being offered by SRC was little.
