Nairobi - Qatar did not offer Julius Yego KES 1 billion to dump Kenya and run for them, the athlete has said.
There have been rumours to the effect that Yego was offered the money by the middle eastern sate to dump Kenya for the gulf and compete for them.
However, the now World Champion in Javelin says that he was not offered the money and would never dump Kenya for a different country.
" No one offered me the money and I would not have taken it anyway as I love Kenya," the 26 year old told News24 in Nairobi after his arrival from Beijing China where he took part in the World Athletics Championships.
Yego won the world title with a throw of 92.72 meters.
He is not the first Kenyan to be tempted with a move to the Middle East. 3000 meters Steeplechase record holder Saeed Shaheen was offered money to compete for Bahrain and the World Record remains under his name and that of Bahrain.
