Worshippers threaten to strip woman
02 April 2013, 16:09
Drama unfolded in Nyeri town on Tuesday afternoon after members of the Akorino sect attacked one of their own for wearing pair of trousers which according to them is against the sect’s customs.
The young lady was spotted by her fellow members wearing a pair of jeans trousers who then harassed and even attempted to undress her.
She was raided at a second hand clothes shop when the sect members demanded to have her out, claiming she was distorting their image.
The more than 50 members converged along the busy Gakere street within few minutes and it could not be established where they emerged from.
They argued the young woman was contravening their regulations, adding that several warnings had been issued to her.
She was rescued by some traders who locked her in a neighboring kiosk until the furious religious men and women dispatched.
However, they managed to remove her turban and it was only after the trader's intervention that she was saved from the rowdy and irate mob.
They vowed to teach her a lesson if they meet her in such attires in future, threatening to ex-communicate her from the sect.
