Mombasa - CORD politicians in Mombasa County have been urged to set aside their differences and work with the Jubilee government to develop the county.
The Council of Imams and preachers of Kenya (CIPK) blamed the leaders for using the Idd Baraza event on Tuesday to criticize the government yet it is meant for bringing together Muslim Community after the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
The leaders led by Mombasa County Governor Hassan Joho, Senator Hassan Omar, Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi, Nyali Awiti Bollo, Jomvu Badi Twalib and Woman Representative Mishi Mboko turned the event into a political ground to attack one another, a move that has sharply been condemned by the Muslim leaders.
“Idd Baraza is not a political event, neither is it a government function, there are very many avenues where they can conduct their politics but not during holy days,” said CIPK chairman Shaikh Mohamed Dhorat a Press conference.
“We are not accusing any one, what we are trying to say is that we are correcting those who want to spoil religion by bringing politics in a Holy day,” Dhor added.
CIPK Secretary General Shaikh Mohammed Khalifa told the leaders to respect Islamic teachings since it was against the religion to attack one another on a holy day celebrations.
The politicians blamed the government for failing to offer security to its citizens in the coastal region claiming that there is a plot kick Joho out of office.
