Imenti North Maendeleo ya Wanawake chair Ms. Joyce Muriuki has joined other stakeholders in campaigns against the outlawed Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) purportedly conducted when schools are on holidays.

Speaking on Wednesday Ms. Muriuki called on parents in Meru County to safeguard their girls FGM which she said caused both physical and psychological turmoil to the participants.

She said the Maendeleo ya Wanawake will join other groups among them United Nations Children's Fund(UNICEF), Njuri Ncheke, and the Ministry of Gender to ensure the practice is not practiced in the entire Meru County this holiday season.

She promised to support legal measures against those by any chance would be found practicing the act terming it barbaric and outdated. She encouraged parents in the region to join other stakeholders in promoting the girl child’s education.

“The government has laid proper legislation in empowering women in politics and other spheres of development,” she reiterated. Ms. Muriuki who has shown interest in defending the Meru County Women Representative’s position urged women to stand out strongly to defend their political rights. Ends
