Kampala - A group of over 10 naked young and elderly women caused commotion when they sat in front of a grader that was grading land which they claimed belongs to their families.
The incident took place at Aputon village in eastern Uganda district of Soroti where a grader was working on land within the disputed piece of land.
The land in contention is reportedly being graded for the construction of Soroti university.
''They fell on the ground in front of the grader while shouting on top of their voices saying that their land was being grabbed,'' said local leader Timothy Epedur.
He said that the driver of the grader could not continue with the work for fear of running over the naked women.
Hundreds of local people gathered in the area to support the naked women.
Police led by the regional criminal chief, Okello Ovura also rushed to the scene to calm the situation.
After listening to the women, Ovura barred the grader from doing any more work until the land issue is resolved.
One of the women, Sarah Atim said, ''We decided to strip naked in order to save our land. Some of our local leaders connive with rich people to grab our land. We will not accept that to take place.''
A few months ago, a group of women in nothern Uganda also stripped naked before ministers protesting land grabbing.
