Nyeri - A 36-year-old woman was Thursday hospitalised at Nyeri provincial General Hospital bleeding profusely after procuring an abortion at Muthiga location, Tetu sub-county.
The woman, mother of two, first fainted outside her rental house before neighbours rushed her to hospital, according to Tetu Deputy County Commissioner Harman Shambi.
Shambi said the woman terminated the eight-month-old pregnancy to win back her husband whom she had separated with about a year ago following domestic disputes.
The infant was later discovered under the woman’s bed wrapped in a polythene bag.

Shambi said the woman was bleeding profusely when the residents took her to the hospital, unaware of the cause.
“While at the hospital, neighbours interrogated her about the pregnancy and it was at that point that she made the confession and directed them to the fetus,” said Shambi.
Area chief, Bernard Kirebu said the woman disclosed that her husband could not accept her back with another man's child.
Shambi added that investigations into the matter were ongoing to establish if there anybody helped her to procure the abortion.
“She is in hospital and after recovery she will be prosecuted. We are trying to establish whether there was any other party involved in the crime,” said the administrator.
