Woman sues husband for infecting her with HIV

Mombasa - A man has been charged before a Mombasa law court for deliberately transmitting HIV contrary to section 26 (1) of the sexual offences.
Anthony Gitau Githanga denied the charges before senior resident Richard Odenyo.
It is alleged that on diverse dates between June 2011 and March 14, 2014 at Wayani village in Changamwe within Mombasa County, the accused having knowledge that he was infected with HIV intentionally and willfully had unprotected sexual intercourse with Ann Wanjiku thus infecting her with HIV.
The prosecutor, Simon Waithaka informed the court that on march 14, 2014 the complainant discovered some medicine hidden in her husband's clothes while cleaning her house.
"I took the medicine to a chemist where I was informed that they are usually administered to persons infected with HIV," said Wanjiku.
She reported the matter to the area chief but the accused absconded all summonses issued to him. The matter was then reported to Changamwe Police station where the accused was arrested and arraigned in court.
He was released on a bond of KES 50 000 with a surety.
The case will be heard on June 3, 2014.
