Woman sets herself, son ablaze

A middle aged woman who set herself and her one year old baby ablaze at Chepsait area in West Pokot County after a series of domestic quarrels with her husband died Wednesday evening.
Ann Nekesa who had sustained 90% body burns succumbed to the injuries at Kapenguria district hospital four hours after her son burnt beyond recognition.
Joshua Kaplamai who witnessed the morning fire incident said the deceased locked herself and the child in the house then lit the bedding shortly after her three children had left for school and husband for work.
“She locked herself and the baby in the house and set her bedding ablaze in what we think was an attempt to put an end to her constant feud with her husband,” narrated Kaplamai, a resident.
The locals who were surprised by the woman’s act notified the Police who arrived at the scene and rushed the two to the district hospital in a bid to save their lives.
They were later reported to have died as their bodies had serious burns.
