Woman hacks husband of 37 years to death

25 November 2013, 11:16 Joseph Njung’eh

Nyeri - Kieni police have launched investigations into the death of a 64-year-old man whose body was found lying outside his house on Sunday morning at Soweto village in Narumoru, Nyeri County.

However, residents and relatives suspect that the deceased was hacked by his wife whom they have lived together for 37 years.

The woman was arrested by the villagers at a local church where she had attended a church service.

Relatives said the deceased, Julius Kanake, was a drunkard and that his wife always complained about the .

The residents said the death could have resulted from domestic rows since the couple has lived with disagreements and have been seeking elders’ advice in solving their issues.

They narrated that she had once attacked the deceased with a panga, leaving him with serious injuries; he was hospitalized for about one month at a Nyeri hospital.

The deceased was found by his brother lying outside their three-roomed-timber house.

When interrogated by the irate villagers, the suspect said Kanake was attacked by some people whom she could not name but relatives said blood stained clothes were recovered from their house.

They suspected that she hacked him to death while in bed and later dragged his body outside in efforts to conceal evidence.
