Woman found dead in a pit latrine

28 March 2013, 12:48 Oduor Omondi

A 27 year old woman was on Wednesday found dead in a pit latrine under construction at Corner Mbaya area in Manyatta estate, Kisumu County.

Anne Adhiambo went missing three days ago while on her way home from Kibuye market where she had gone shopping.

According to her husband, Anne was in a jovial mood as she went to purchase foodstuffs but he got suspicious when six hours later the wife had not returned home.

Her phone went unanswered leading to more suspicions.

A search for her ensued but efforts to find her turned futile as no one could account for her whereabouts.

But Wednesday evening, an elderly woman in the estate got suspicious of a foul odor coming from a latrine under construction nearby .

Police and residents approached the toilet and discovered a decomposing body floating inside the toilet.

Confirming the incident, area assistant chief George Ojowi said they suspected the deceased could have fallen into the latrine by accident.

Ojowi divulged that he had issued area plot owners with a one week notice to cover all open pit latrines since they are dangerous especially during the rainy season in order to avoid such incidents.

The body of the deceased is currently at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
