Nyeri - A 37-year-old woman died in a Nyeri lodging while attempting to procure abortion, police said Wednesday.
Area OCPD, Joseph Leshimpiro, said initial investigations pointed towards attempts to procure abortion.
The police chief however said further investigations were ongoing to establish how she passed away.
The deceased, identified as Catherine Wanjiku and a mother of two, was found lying in a pool of blood in a bed at Maru building on Tuesday morning.
According to the hotel management, Wanjiku had checked in the hotel Monday night.
Her husband, Eliud Wamae, said the deceased left their home in Gataragwa location, Kieni, to seek medical attention after she complained of stomach cramps.
“We were working together in the farm when she asked for money to go to the hospital. She later called me in the evening at about 7pm saying she was too sick to come home and had decided to spent the night in the lodging,” Wamae recalled.
He said her wife called him later on in the evening informing him that she could not make it back home for her treatment took longer than she anticipated and was to spend the night in the hotel.
The distraught husband could not hold back his tears as police gained entry into the room to remove the body.
Crowds of curious onlookers milled outside the lodging trying to catch a glimpse of the scene. The body was taken to the Provincial General Hospital (PGH) mortuary.
