Woman charged for sending threatening SMS

18 January 2013, 17:02Anthony Muriuki

A 34-year-old woman has been given a KES 50 000 cash bail in Maua law courts for sending threatening and disturbing messages to another woman.

Bridget Kendi M’njira was charged before senior principal magistrate Cosmas Maundu for three counts of improper use of a licensed telecommunication system.

According to the prosecutors, the lady (Kendi ) had sent annoying and threatening messages to Doreen Mwende a businesswoman based in Maua town several times and the complainant felt that the best thing was to make her face the law.

However, it was later understood that Kendi was sister to Lucy Kanario who was married to Kirimi Mbogo an advocate in Maua who have since divorced, and Doreen Mwende is the current wife to Mbogo.

The court heard that after this divorce, there was an ill-feeling from the family of Kanario and that is why she was using her sister to attack the lady who took her place.

The complainant also told the court that Kanario had also sent her several electronic mails (e-mails) earlier but she did not take any action.

The three messages which were presented before the court read, "say anything you want to say but 1 day I will get you and you will curse the day u were born, husband snatcher. Ninaweza kukurarua with one hand bastard wewe, si kuolewa kwako ni kumkalia bwana chapati."

It was after this that the lady was granted a KES 50 000 cash bail but by the time of publication she had not raised this amount and was remanded in custody.

The case shall proceed on March 17.
