Nyeri - Two women were caught Wednesday evening shoplifting Woodley Supermarket in Nyeri Town.
However, one managed to escape while her accomplice, 30-year-old Mary Nyawira, was not lucky as she was frogmarched back to the supermarket by a security guard.
According to the Supermarket’s manager, George Waihenya, the duo entered the premises posing as normal customers.
“They requested to be shown the pants section before each took strategic positions where they stuffed some goods and then left in a hurry,” the manager reported.
He said after stuffing the goods under their armpits, they passed through the cashier oblivious that they had been captured on CCTV.
It was after they had walked for about 50 meters from the shop that the manager ordered the guards to follow them and conduct a search.
“Upon searching her, we recovered two packets of Milo (400 grams) worth KES 780 while the other one took off with an unknown amount of goods,” Waihenya told media.
He stated that cases of shoplifting in the region have become rampant and warned people against falling prey to the vice.
Nyawira was forced to pay seven times the value of the product she had stolen, equivalent to more than KES 5,000.
