Woman among three carjackers shot dead in Nakuru

03 February 2015, 19:00 Robert CHepkwony

Nakuru -  Police officers shot dead three thugs including a woman for allegedly carjacking a lorry on transit at Pipeline area in Nakuru town Monday night.

Confirming the incident, Nakuru police boss Bernard Kioko said the thugs were in a group of seven who blocked a vehicle that was transporting 10 tons of iron sheets in a salon car. After blocking the vehicle, a group of seven other thugs emerged from a nearby bush and hit the windscreen of the lorry forcing the driver and the conductor out of the vehicle whereupon they  attacked them.

“The incident occurred at about 2300hrs,” said Kioko.

During the attacks, the driver of the lorry sustained serious injuries on the head while the conductor sustained a deep cut on his right hand.

Police officers who were on patrol during the incident rushed to the scene and shot dead the three after they failed to surrender while others escaped.

The thugs made away with a mobile phone and KES 2 200.

Victims were taken to Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital for treatment while bodies of the deceased are at Nakuru municipal mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Kioko said police officers have launched investigations to arrest thugs who escaped.

The OCPD said the robbers are part of cropping highway robbers attacking road users along the busy highway.

“Police officers will continue conducting frequent patrols to ensure all suspected gangsters and criminals are arrested to curb insecurity,” said Kioko.
