Narok - A 27-year-old woman who admitted to throwing her two weeks old baby into a pit latrine after they both tested HIV positive was Wednesday charged with attempted murder at a Narok court.
Gladys Chepkoech Lelei was charged of trying to kill her baby on December 12 at the Pambanik area of Narok South.
She pleaded guilty to the charges saying that she was traumatized after she found that she was HIV positive, something that made her feel like the baby did not deserve to live.
The court was told that police were called in to rescue the baby who was discovered by a neighbor in a pit latrine.
The baby was later admitted to the Narok County Referral Hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition.
Narok acting Senior Principal Magistrate Alex Mbuvi ordered that the woman be placed under probation until December 31 when she will be sentenced.
