Will Raila recover from Kajwang, Fidel losses?
05 January 2015, 13:06
Nairobi - The picture of a clearly distraught Raila Odinga after the death of eldest son Fidel spoke more than words could say about a man who is usually the face of defiance in adversity.
Raila is described by friends and foes as a man of steel, one who battles fire with fire, one never easy and willing to give up. If there ever was a mortal among immortals it was Raila.
In recent weeks though, what we have seen is a man beaten by the harsh reality of death at his doorstep. Death in his compound as well as his neighbours.
According to persons close to him, the death of close ally Gerald Otieno Kajwang was a big hit on the psyche of a man who thrives on just that.
"He has not yet recovered form losing Kajwang. He was still dealing with it but not with Fidel's death, he is a broken man," a member of his ODM staff at Orange House told News24, after asking not to be named.
But Fidel's death, that of his eldest son and a man he trusted alot will hurt him even more, as the two were said to be very close.
" They were very close. Wherever Raila was most times Fidel was and that was how close they were. They spoke on a daily basis and he was definitely being groomed to take charge of the Raila dynasty in future, political analyst Michael Njenga says.
" It will be a big blow to him, but he will be back stronger than ever to fight on, that is why he is Raila, Njenga adds.
It will be interesting to see which Raila comes out of this latest disaster.
