Who is Sonia Birdi?

27 January 2015, 15:01 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Many questions have been asked of Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter in the wake of his corruption scandal, but little of his little known partner Sonia Birdi.

Birdi, formally known as Sonia Sanjeev Kaur Birdi, is a nominated MP under the United Republican Front URP, and not a well known public figure.

Before the incident at the Gilgil weighbridge, she was not known by many in the public eye, as she maintains a very low profile in the public eye.

She earned nomination from URP after failing to land a seat in the Makadara Elections in the 2013 polls.

From then on, she has been very vocal in the house, helping with a high number of contributions in the house.

She is the only female MP of Indian origin in the house.

That said, she is of Kenyan origin and was raised through her primary and secondary school at the Loreto Msongari School as well as Our Lady of Mercy school in Nairobi before heading to the United Kingdom to pursue further studies.

As for the controversy of the moment, the lorry that she and Keter were trying to retrieve at the weigh bridge belongs to her family's drilling company Turn O Metals drilling company.

She describes herself as a straight forward woman of ideals.
