When your man does not want a wedding
27 January 2015, 18:18
Nairobi - Moving in to live with your partner is great; you cut the
double cost of living, everyone chips in extra when they can, you can take one
car rather than two (doing us Nairiobians a favor because the traffic is
becoming hellish, having to live the house at four to get to town by 8 is not
funny), if you cannot hold it together at a particular time, they are there to
sort you out.
It is just great.
What everyone fails to tell you is that once the both of you
move in and live past three years, have a kid or two; he is not marrying you
because technically you are living the “dream”. Not that he does not want to,
but logically he is looking at it this way, why
buy the cow when you can have the milk for free.
For him the wedding frippery becomes something that you can
do without because it is a day spent with people that either annoy you, you do
not remember or are important even though you do not like them but they have to
Not only that you pay for their family fun day with money he could
have spent elsewhere such as an investment that could sort future expenses. A
day that you buy clothes that you will never wear again and months of planning
using valuable billable hours.
So why really should he buy the cow?
If you do not want to get a certificate at the registry
after making the queue then do try to restrain and stay at your own house. As
much as it is attractive to be able to snoop and know what he is up to all the
time and no personal space, be ready to forego the wedding.
On the other hand
if your family has already picked the venue and the dresses then stick to your
guns and stay at your house because a one year trial period can end up being a
come we stay situation.
