Nyeri - Hawkers in Nyeri town are making a kill out of the Westgate mall attack selling DVDs of the event. Dubbed ‘WestGate Siege’, a copy of the DVD is going for KES 100.
Barely a week after the incident, the DVDs which mainly comprise collections of footage from various media houses which were on live transmission are selling like a hot cake.
The hawkers are collecting them from Nairobi city to Nyeri town and are making thousands of profit daily.
A hawker who did not want to be named said he had sold about 500 copies by lunch hour on Saturday making a profit of about KES 3 000.
“The business is very good. People want to know exactly what happened. I have run out of the stock and now I might return to Nairobi later in the day for more,” said a hawker who sought anonymity.
Another trader said he sold 600 copies on Friday.
Local residents who did not have a chance to watch the live transmissions are very interested in the DVD, while others are just curious to know whether more secrets about the attack have been revealed.
