We are not over borrowing, Ruto tells Raila

Nairobi - Deputy President, William Ruto says the government has not over borrowed as claimed by Cord leader Raila Odinga.
According to the DP, the government is borrowing in accordance with the budget and has not even reached borrowing limits set by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“We are borrowing to expand our infrastructure and even IMF and World Bank will tell you this is right because we are investing. It is only wrong to borrow to fund recurrent expenditure.
“We have not borrowed beyond the limits set by these two institutions,” Ruto said.

He claimed that Cord was playing cheap politics with the matter to gain political mileage.
“The opposition is peddling lies about the government giving fictitious figures about our economy. Whenever their claims are countered by the truth, they go silent. Raila failed to do what we are doing when he was in power,” the DP said.
On corruption, Ruto said the Jubilee administration has done what no other government did in the war against graft by suspending senior officials said to have been involved in the vice.
“The government is committed to root out corruption and every public official will be helf responsible for his/her deeds.
“What happened to the officers who stepped aside is the same thing that will happen to those implicated in the scandal at NYS because we don’t want more Anglo Leasing and Goldenberg scandals in Jubilee,” Ruto said.
