Water Scarcity in Nakuru
20 June 2012, 08:44
Residents of Nakuru Town will go without water for the coming days after Nakuru Rural Water and Sanitation Company (NARUWASCO) disconnected supply over Sh14 million in unpaid bills.
Naruwasco claimed that Nakuru Water and Sanitation Company Nawasco had failed to pay its bills for the last five months thus forcing them to cut water supply to the town.
Some of the affected areas in the town include Section 58, Naka and Kiamunyi estates Kenya Pipeline will also be affected.
While addressing the press at his office today, NARUWASCO chairman Board of directors Guichuki Kenda urged the residents to prepare for a serious water shortage in the town.
He maintained that normal water supply will only resume once the outstanding arrears are paid.
Kenda noted that they have not been able to pay their staff promptly because of the unpaid bills. Efforts to get a comment from Nawasco failed as our phone calls went unanswered.
Naruwasco supplies about 6,000 cubic litres of water daily to Nakuru Town and the adjacent areas. Kenda added that they have agreed that unless the money is paid, the water supply stands disconnected.
