Mombasa - Mombasa county commissioner Nelson Marwa has raised alarm over the rising number of fake cops in town whom are terrorizing businessmen.
Marwa has called upon residents to be on the lookout as the dangerous group has now improvised their tactics and are now printing out fake police badges which they are now using to scare local residents.
“We have recovered a fake police badge and we are narrowing in on individuals whom we believe are behind these groups that are extorting money from the public in the name of police officers” said Marwa
Addressing the press at his office, Marwa warned the Mombasa county residents against bribing police officers to avoid screening.
He said that those found giving out cash to avoid the screening will be re-arrested for interfering with the police investigations.
“If you know you are innocent why do you want to avoid the police screening?," said Marwa.
He revealed that the police have formed a multi agent unit comprising of Kenya Defence Forces KDF, prison officers, CID and AP that are in charge of conducting the investigations.
“The issue of an OCPD asking questions at the station should never arise as we have this new team that is specifically formed to conduct the duties," he said
This comes as police in Mombasa continue with a swap aimed at recovering a G3 riffle that was stolen from a police officer who was shot dead in Bondeni area by suspected youths.
