A section of Nyeri county Ward Representatives on Thursday threatened to mobilize the public for demonstrations. The move is intended to condemn their Governor Nderitu Gachagua following claims that he is planning to demolish a hospital to put up his office.
The Representatives, most of whom belong to The National Alliance (TNA) party, vowed to reject the Governor’s proposal whatsoever.
Led by the majority leader in the chambers Antony Mwangi Kibuu of Gatitu ward, they vowed to rally members of the public and bring the busy town to a standstill with protests to express their fury.
During a previous sitting at the assembly, Mwangi told the Representatives that there was a proposal to have the health facility demolished, arguing that this will affect local residents if implemented.
Speaking in Nyeri town, Mwangi said if the Governor fails to dismiss the proposal, they will have to evict him from office.
“We can evict him from office. I don’t think he is strong than us,” said Mwangi.
However, Gachagua who was the only candidate elected on a Grand National Union (GNU) party ticket said the reports are just rumors and the Representatives are blowing the issue out of proportion.
He said there was a discussion to relocate the governor’s offices saying that the issue was on the table for discussion and consultations are still ongoing.
