Wanjohi out as Mathare set for by-election
18 March 2014, 20:48
Nairobi - The court of appeal has nullified the election of George Wanjohi as the Mathare member of parliament and has ordered a re-run of the elections.
A petition by one of the contestants Stephen Kariuki was ruled favourable by the court Tuesday to add Mathare to the growing list of constituencies forced to take the by-election path.
The three judge bench decided that the appeal lodged was sensible and that there is grounds for a by- election.
" Considering the evidence before us, it is our feeling that the complainant has done enough to prove that there is indeed a case to be answered and that there are sufficient irregularities to warrant a by- election.
" We do thus order a by election for Mathare constituency, the ruling read in part.
The ruling comes just a few days after a similar one was made in Bonchari and adds to the growing list of election complaints from the March 2013 general election.
