Wambui: I'm qualified to vie
06 December 2012, 13:07
Othaya Parliamentary Aspirant Mary Wambui has told off those rushing to court to question her education background saying she is very much educated and has the relevant academic qualifications.
Wambui said she finished school successfully and wondered why many people are so disturbed by her academic status.
She insisted that no amount of intimidation will make her drop her parliamentary ambitions but will instead continue with her campaigns since it is Othaya people who will elect her to parliament.
“Let those people know that I have attained the relevant academic qualifications required to vie for the position of MP vote for me in the upcoming general elections. I was in school and finished it; those who don’t know that can go where they want. I’m not turning back,” she told Gatugi residents while criss - crossing the constituency on her Range Rover.
She was answering to a section of critics who have moved to a Nairobi court questioning her integrity and education status.
Later, she posted on her Facebook page, “I spoke about my education due to emerging propaganda. Though this is not what our campaign platforms should be about, I felt that the people of Othaya should be confident with my candidacy as I have attained the relevant academic qualifications required to vie for the position of MP.”
She insisted that Othaya people know she is a very hardworking woman.
Wambui also urged political rivals to conduct peaceful campaigns which are free of insults and mudslinging.
Although she did not directly mention Waki report on post election violence and the Artur Brothers report, she told the church congregation that what she did in helping the community with food and other materials during the post election violence was right and she would still repeat the same if such scenario was to re-occur.
She urged all the eligible voters to register in order to elect her during the January 7 TNA nominations.
At the same time, a local parliamentary aspirant Nderitu Wamiitii dropped his ambitions and joined Wambui’s camp.
She was welcomed by Wambui at Gatugi trading centre and vowed work together for the sake of Othaya people.
“I backed this woman since I know she is very hardworking and generous. By joining hands together, we shall ensure Othaya people get the best services,” said Wamiitii after backing Wambui.
Wambui also promised Othaya people that she will boost Agriculture in the area through value addition, as well as create youth employment and improve infrastructure.
