Nairobi - National Youth Service NYS recruits have hit the streets of Nairobi to protest unpaid allowances.
The youth protested along Nairobi's Mombasa Road and made it to the city centre Monday, saying that they had been denied their allowances.
They demanded that Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru resign from office and leave the running of the ministry to someone more capable.
" Waiguru must go!!," they chanted during the protests.
Those who spoke to News24 stated that they were owed a few months allowances.
" They owe us a few payments and we have so far not been told anything by the supervisors," one recruit who did not want to be named for fear of discrimination said.
The protests come a few days after pressure on Waiguru rose after revelations the NYS has lost as much as KES 790 million thanks to unscrupulous deals.
There has also been a clamour in recent months for Waiguru to resign over the ongoings at the NYS.
