Waiganjo jailed for another two-and-a-half years

18 February 2015, 08:22 Jayden Kanuri

Nyeri - Joshua Waiganjo will spend two and a half years in jail after a Nyeri court found him guilty of impersonating police officers and committing fraud.

Waiganjo who was last year jailed for another two years for being in illegal possession of police uniforms was convicted once more, by Nyeri Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma.

He was found guilty of coning three Nyeri families of KES 280, 000 in the pretext that he would assist their children get recruited as administration police officers.

During the trial leading to the judgement, the court heard how Waiganjo reportedly floated the names of senior police officers including current Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, when he undertook the illegal AP’s “recruitment” exercise.

The court also heard how Waiganjo purported that his illegal recruitment exercise had the blessings of retired president Mwai Kibaki – ostensibly because more recruits had to come from Kibaki’s home turf of Nyeri.

He was charged with falsely obtaining KES 50, 000 from Daniel Kago, KES 100, 000 from James Waichoya and KES 130,000 from Beatrice Wangui in Othaya.

In each of the three occasions, the court heard that he picked the KCSE certificates of the sons of Kago, Waichoya and Wangui, and promised to have them recruited in the police force.
