Tension was high at Kurawa salt firm in Magarini district after irate members of public attacked the salt firm workers and set a blaze an excavator following a land dispute.
Witnesses said that the angry villagers started by confronting workers who were expanding salt pans at a disputed parcel of land ordering the workers to go away.
The villagers overpowered the workers who escaped leaving behind a company's excavator which was later set ablaze.
Magarini district commissioner Richard Karani confirmed the incident saying they are tracing several people who are belived to have been inciting others to cause chaos.
He said the problem was caused by a land dispute between the salt firm and local residents.
"The salt firm wants to expand its activities and had agreed with the land owners in the area to compensate them and leave. Some agreed and left but a few refused and are inciting their colleagues to reject the deal although they have already received cash," noted the DC.
Karani said his officers together with area chief responded quickly to restore calm in the area but the arsonists had left to unknown destination.
"We know who have organized this and very soon they will be apprehended because we cannot tolerate incitement which has caused damages to the company," he said.
However, he could not immediately establish how many people were injured during the incident and the value of the company's' excavator which was reduced to ashes.
