Vihiga accident claims eight lives

Vihiga - Eight people perished on the spot as scores others are trapped in the wreck of the vehicle they were travelling in after it lost control and caught fire along Magada - Esongolo rough road in Emuhaya constituency.
The midnight accident left the other passengers who were travelling in the vehicle nursing grave injuries.
According to Emuhaya police boss, the initial investigations indicate that the driver may have been speeding and lost control of the vehicle before it swerved out of the road.
“We have already taken eight bodies out of the vehicle who have been confirmed dead and we are continuing with the rescue operation to see if there are survivors. We don’t know how many more are trapped in the vehicle, but we fear that many other may be dead,” the police boss said.
He said that after the vehicle had rolled several times, it caught fire and some bodies that have been taken out are burnt beyond recognition.
Some of the people who have been rescued have been taken to Vihiga Hospital in Mbale where they are receiving medication.
The police officers are on the ground continuing with the rescue operation.
