Kampala - A 24-year-old university student is on the run after faking his father's death so he could obtain money from sympathizers especially politicians who are canvassing in the villages ahead of next year's elections.
Ambrose Ojambo of Siya village in Namayingo district, 160 kms east of Kampala, approached several aspirants of various elective posts and asked for money to transport his father's body, whom he claimed had died in the country's major referral hospital of Mulago while undergoing treatment.
Six of the aspirants gave him some money, but one of them who knew their home went to console the bereaved family only to be welcomed by the very person whose son had pronounced dead.
''They told us that you died in Mulago hospital. Your son came to me asking for money to transport your body home,'' he told Ojambo senior, who collapsed on hearing this.
He was rushed to hospital but after recovering denounced the son.
He said that he did not want to see him at his home, and that he no longer regards him as his child.
The son fled to Kampala on learning that his trick had been discovered.
