Nairobi - Kenyan universities have performed poorly in continental ranking, raising doubts over the level of education in the country's institutions of higher learning.
The university of Nairobi was the best placed in Kenya, coming out at position 7 in the continent, way above others in the country.
Still, there was no one Kenyan institution in the top 100 in the world.
Kenyatta University came in position 38 in the continent while the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology is at position 44 in Africa.
Egerton University came at number 60, Moi University at 65 and Strathmore
Private Universities performed poorly in the poll.
The survey was done by Spanish firm Webometrics.
Webometrics considered the volume of research
undertaken by a university, its online visibility and the economic and
job market relevance of the courses the institutions are offering, which Kenyan Universities are really poor at.
In the continent, University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University and University of Pretoria took out the top three.
In the world ranking, Harvard University took the top spot.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT, Stanford University,
University of California Berkley and Cornell University followed in order to complete the top 5.
