Uhuru told not to prioritise laptops
25 March 2013, 16:30
The president elect Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have been urged to keep aside and not prioritize the issue of supplying laptops to primary school children.
Foundation of Faith director Veronicah Maingi on Monday said the government should first focus on dealing with some basic problems facing children.
Speaking in Nyeri at Githwariga Primary School, Veronicah said some pupils lack basic commodities like school uniforms and food.
No need for laptops with empty stomach
She argued there would be no need of having a laptop with an empty stomach or without a school uniform.
The director said the free education kitty does not cater for such needs and thus the new government should rush to attend to them.
She further stated that it will be a surprise to the government to see vulnerable children exchanging their laptops with food.
She made the remarks while making a donation of more than 100 school uniforms to some pupils at Githwariga primary school.
Most of the children in the school are drawn from informal settlements within Nyeri town like Kangemi and Majengo shanties.
Veronicah noted that most children attend school without actual uniforms and thanked the headmaster for considering them since they are just susceptible.
