Uhuru tests the waters in unstable Kalonzo turf

Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta will make a visit to the Ukambani region, in the midst of issues combing the region led by CORD principal Kalonzo Musyoka.
The president will visit Machakos and Kitui counties Friday as he steps up his move to break new ground in CORD strongholds.
Uhuru has recently also made visits to CORD strongholds in Nyanza and Nairobi and the latest move will seek to test the waters in a region divided in recent times.
Machakos will be the first stop in his visit to the region, where he is expected to oversee some development projects and meet and greet leaders from the region.
With Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua disillusioned about his stay in the Wiper Democratic Party, the visit will be seen as a statement of intent from the president.
Mutua has previously made no secret of his desire to work with the Jubilee government.

The president will then head to Kitui, also on a meet and greet tour, where he will also inspect development projects.
There will however be no stop in Makueni, where there is an impasse in leadership following the impeachment of Governor Kivutha Kibwana.
" The president will be on a meet and greet tour of the region and will inspect development projects too, a source from State House told News24.
His visit though has been met with some derision by leaders from the region, with some questioning the hurried nature in which the visit has been created.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is not expected to be in the region Friday and will not be a part of the tour.
