Uhuru supports MCAs fight for equality
21 March 2014, 20:20
Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta has backed Members of County Assemblies in their fight for equality with other elected officials.
He has agreed to the MCAs picking up an improved car loan and grants just like Mps and has said that they deserve to be put on the same pedestal.
MPs currently pick up a KES 5 million car grant as well as a KES 7 million car loan while the MCAs are only afforded a KES 3 million car loan.
Uhuru, speaking in a retreat for MCAs in Mombasa, said that there needs to be equality amongst elected officials.
" We need to ensure there is parity in the public service. We are all elected officials and deserve to be treated the same, he said.
He however noted the need for the MCAs to observe the need to have a small wage bill in the public service.
" We must be open and also reasonable in our demands, he noted.
