Uhuru orders probe into 12,000 ghost workers scam
20 November 2014, 19:25
Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered investigations into how 12,000 ghost workers are on the government payroll.
The president said during a cabinet meeting Thursday that the 12,000 have been found to be missing from a recent government audit of public service staff.
Of 172,000 staff initially on payroll, only 160,000 reported for the audit and presented valid documents.
The president said that the number was huge and needed to be looked at immediately.
He ordered the Ethics Commission EACC, the Criminal Investigations Department CID and other relevant bodies to investigate the perpetrators of the huge difference and determine those who were benefiting from it.
Devolution CS Ann Waiguru has said that the 12,000 would be struck out of November payroll.
