Nairobi - Welcome to Jakaya Kikwete road in Nairobi, which leads to President Uhuru Kenyatta's doorstep.
Previously known as Milimani Road, the 500 metre stretch of road has now been named in honour of one of Tanzania's more progressive president's and a true friend of Kenya.
Fittingly, it is situated near State House, the home of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
" No one can argue that President Kikwete has been a true friend of Kenya. He has lifted business between Kenya and Tanzania to an all time high and has always been a phone-call away," Uhuru said of a smiling Kikwete.
Kikwete was also among leaders who were keenly involved in the brokerage of a Grand Coalition government following the Post Election Violence of 2008.
" Those were dark times indeed but I am happy that I was able to come in and help a country that is such a friend to myself and Tanzanians as a whole," he added.
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero stated that the new road was a fitting farewell gift for Kikwete who is leaving office later this month.
" We are proud to be the last city to host him as President. It is a great honour," he added.
Tanzania elections take place October 25.
