Nairobi - President Kenyatta, speaking at the Governors ball hosted by the Nairobi County government, said that the national government is committed to ensuring county governments have their space.
He however noted that there will be no allowance for misuse of public funds by the smaller governments.
" We will not stay in the way of County governments at all, he said. They have the constitutional right to exist in their current form and that is a fact.
" On the other hand, we will not hesitate to jump in if we feel that there is disservice to Kenyans, he added.
There have been several issues over the sovereignty of the county governments and how much they can be allowed to handle and the president made it very clear that the national government will play a big brother role
" It is prudent that Kenyans get the service they deserve and that is the way we look at it. We feel that there is need to play a supervisory role and ensure that Kenyans are in the right hands.
He also urged governors to think forward in the development of their states.
" It is up to governors to ensure that they look for ways of improving the lives of their people. They should embrace values that enhance economic growth.
He further urged an end to the health workers strike saying that there are amicable ways of solving issues.
