Nairobi - A relative of president Uhuru Kenyatta's was carjacked in Nairobi as cases of insecurity in the capital continue to spiral out of control.
The incident occured Tuesday night in what police are yet to classify either a planned attack or a random operation.
Mrs Njeri Muhoho, the president's aunt and wife to former Kenya Airports Authority chair George Muhoho was carjacked by three unknown assailants along Nairobi's Uhuru Highway.
She was in the company of her driver who was waylaid by the three who took over the vehicle and eventually dropped them near Gigiri close to an hour and a half later.
The two were unharmed in the incident.
According to police sources, the motive of the attack is yet to be known even though evidence leans towards it being a random attack.
" It is not clear whether they knew her family relations but we are tracking the assailants, the source said.
It is understood that the carjackers stole cash, ATM cards, Passports, Phones and other personal effects from Mrs Muhoho and the driver.
The case comes amidst increased cases of violent attacks on Nairobi residents in recent months, raising questions as to whether the government is indeed in a position to deal with the vice.
Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo was the most recent case of an attack, with gangsters attacking him at his Karen home and stealing his personal effects.
Added to the numerous cases of carjackings, kidnappings and assault cases, one wonders what to make of the current security situation.
