Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta was in attendance as Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko's father was laid to rest in Machakos, Tuesday.
Sonko's father Gideon died last week at the Nairobi Hospital after a long illness and was described as a man of the people by those who knew him.
His final journey was a reflection of that, with thousands turning up to give him a fitting send off.
" I am here to represent Kenyans who have lost a man who lived to improve the lives of others and to ensure that the youth of this country are better," President Uhuru Kenyatta said.
On his part, Sonko mourned the loss of a mentor in his life.
" I have lost a friend and a mentor but he has left me a better person and we know he has gone to a better place," he said.
The ceremony was attended by several members of Parliament and leaders from the Ukambani region as well as representatives form the Nairobi County government.
