Uhuru gets support from KNUT

Nyeri teachers will vote for Jubilee presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta in his bid to succeed President Kibaki come March 4, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) branch executive secretary Mutahi Kahiga said on Thursday during a media briefing at Unity hotel Nyeri.
Mutahi said Uhuru has been standing by their side during hard times and therefore deserve their support for he has also shown he is ready to work with them.
“Jubilee’s policies suit us very well,” noted Mutahi who was in the company of other executives.
Mutahi said that the aspirant was among those behind the discussion of solving September strike early last year.
“We are not late to declare our stand; this is the opine time after listening to all presidential aspirants and their policies,” said Mutahi, urging other KNUT branches to follow suit and declare their stand regarding national politics.
The branch constitutes of about 8 000 teachers whom Mutahi said they had all unanimously agreed to this decision prior to the public declaration.
He however said they will work with any of the aspirants who will take over if Uhuru loses.
