Kampala - The Minister for Information and National Guidance, Major General Jim Muhwezi has confirmed that Uganda will beat the deadline for digital migration in June.
Muhwezi said, ''We will be definately ready to switch from analogue to digital transmission in June this year.''
He said that the country has now secured the required funds to complete the long awaited project.
Muhwezi made the assurance Thursday while appearing before the presidential affairs committee chaired by colonel Fred Mwesigye.
He said, "All the money needed will be availed to enable the country meet its target in line with other countries that have already switched to digital transmission.''
He said come June 17, 2015 when the country will switch to digital migration, the population will be able to access digital TV without any interruption.
He said that UGX 6.9 billion is needed to complete the exercise.
Although the government is working towards the deadline, some broadcasters are still concerned that a number of challenges are making it very hard for the consumers and broadcasters to switch to the new system.
