23 February 2012, 11:34 Alloys Musyoka

An officer with the United State Embassy in Nairobi has said that US is not against Muslim community as it has been perceived by many Muslims’ nations around the world.

Mr. Henry Mendelsohn US Information Research officer in Nairobi said there are over 7 million Muslims living in US and that that the number was still increasing everyday despite claims that they are against Muslims.

He said the perception of many people that US is antagonistic to Islam was not true and that the exhibitions that they were showing from US at Malindi Museum will give the true pictures of Islam’s activities in US.

Mr. Mendelsohn made the remarks at Malindi museum on Tuesday where he presented exhibitions from US showing Muslims living in US.

He said the exhibits will be at Malindi museum for two weeks before they are taken to Mombasa and urged locals in Malindi to take advantage of the exhibits and see them before they are taken away.

“We urge Malindi residents to visit Malindi museum and see for themselves that there are Muslims in US,” he noted.

Professor Abdulla Naji who attended the function said the move by US to present exhibitions of Muslims living in US was one and great move to defuse the antagonism by US to Islamic communities.

“This is a major move that we appreciate as Muslims and we  urge mostly youths to visit Malindi museum and see for themselves so that the perception that US is against Islamic community can be alleviated,” he said.

Malindi Senior curator Mr. Ghazza .H. Swalehe also said there was a need for locals in Malindi to come out and see for themselves the exhibitions which will be in Malindi for two weeks.

He said the introduction of the exhibits by US to Kenya was a big step by Muslims and called them to be strong enough to continue defending their religion.
