United Democratic Movement (UDF) party Kakamega branch strongly supports the establishment of investigations and prosecutions departments by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Addressing ‘Kenyans for Mudavadi’ team in Kakamega town yesterday, the Kakamega branch UDF Vice Chairman Musa Rajab said these structures will ensure that the election is peaceful, free and fair.
Rajab said that many politicians in the past have been using illegimate means such as bribing voters in order to win posts.
“Once such people are elected, they end up embezzling the money entrusted to their offices so as to recover what they spent during campaigns,” he said.
An aspirant for East Wanga Ward representative post Stephen Nerima also applauded the move taken by IEBC and stated that time has come for genuine leaders to be given a chance to steer the country to prosperity.
“Supporters of various Politicians have in the past have been disturbing people at night, dishing out items like a kilo of sugar and monetary handouts but this time round these electoral malpractices have been outlawed,” Nerima said.
Nerima said that politicians had a tendency of hiring goons to disrupt the vote counting process which has now become a thing of the past.
