A Nyeri court on Wednesday sentenced two middle aged men to death after being found guilty of six counts of robbery with violence.
The two men, Peter Karuri Theuri and Joseph Njire Karuri were jointly charged with violently robbing Pauline Wanjiku Muteru, Edward Muteru Nderitu, Alice Njoki Muteru, Ann Njoki Muteru and Nancy Wangare Muteru, all members of the same family of mobile phones and money on 26th and 27th December 2009.
The two were also charged for handling stolen property.
They stole from them goods totaling over KES. 90,000 from the family.
The prosecution had brought before the court five witnesses who gave collaborating evidence that on the day they were committing the offence, they were returning from a visit to their parents home when they were accosted by four men armed with a pistol, pangas and iron bars.
Senior principal magistrate Evans Makori said that the court was convinced that the witnesses presented were truthful and candid since their evidence left no doubt on a number of facts.
Delivering his judgement, the magistrate said the court had found the accused guilty of the offence beyond any reasonable doubt and accordingly sentenced them to hang.
