Two terror suspects were shot dead by police after tip off by citizens about a planned terror attack that was meant to target Frère town police station in Kisauni, Mombasa.
A police report indicates that the group involved in the attack is called "Nyuki" and is alleged to have links with the recently barred organization Mombasa Republican Council (MRC).
Sharp objects used as weapons
The group is alleged to be using machetes, bows and arrows and other sharp objects as their weapons in their attacks.
A variety of such weapons were found in a house in Kisauni where it is believed the attacks were being planned.
During the operation that left two of the group members dead, several people were arrested and put behind bars as they await the completion of police investigation.
Unemployed uplands populace
It is believed that the leader of the group has decided to employ people from uplands who lack jobs by giving them cash in order to get their helping hand.
Most of the arrested suspects turned out to be from uplands.
Coast provincial commissioner Francis Kilele has asked both the police and citizens to work hand in hand in helping cube the rising insecurity in Coast province and the country at large especially at this time when the country is to make history in having new elective posts ever.
Prevention of bloodshed
He gave the example of how police and citizen contribution led to the prevention of a great bloodshed that would have occurred.
Police have launched an operation in search of more suspects in an attempt to eradicate the group completely.
Several such attacks have occurred in Mombasa targeting the police in the past one month but this is the only one that police managed to handle before it exploded.
