Two suspected robbers shot dead

Two suspects believed to be behind a spate of violent robberies and murders in the region were gunned down by police officers at Chaka area in Nyeri County on Thursday morning.
One of their accomplices believed to have masterminded the murder of a businessman in the area two days ago managed to escape, police reported.
On Monday, a butcher was killed in the area and nothing was stolen from him though he had KES 100 000 in his pocket.
Speaking at the crime scene, Kieni East OCPD Ancent Karoki said they are pursuing the escapee.
He said police managed to recover two home made guns, a pistol, one AK 47 riffle and a new motor bike which had no registration numbers and is believed to have been stolen.
According to area County Commissioner Daniel Ondabu, one of the deceased was a jail bird who was released from King’ong’o GK prison recently and hails from Gatitu area on the fringes of Nyeri town.
He reported that the three suspects were leaving a nearby hotel where they had gone for breakfast when they were confronted by police officers.
One of them drew a pistol ready to shoot at the police while his accomplice began cocking his fake wooden gun. Police retaliated by firing bullets and killing the two suspects on the spot.
Ondabu said two more suspects including a woman were nabbed at the scene of crime as they were caught answering a phone call from one of the killed suspects.
He said police have been trailing the three suspects for the last two days after receiving a tip from the members of the public.
Police however had a hectic time trying to control the curious members of the public who had gathered at the scene.
